PREGNANCY YOGA

Pregnancy yoga is a great way to stretch out and relieve some of those common pregnancy aches and pains, prepare for babies arrival, strengthen key muscles needed for the later stages of pregnancy and birth and to simply relax. Whether you’re wanting time to connect with yourself and baby, or a practice to relieve pelvic girdle pain this is a lovely class to join. It’s also a great way to connect with other local mums to be and join a supportive community. All my classes included techniques to prepare for birth and motherhood.
Monday evenings 6:15 - 7:30pm at Calderdale Yoga Centre, Hebden Bridge
Thursday evenings 6:30 - 7:45pm  at Union House, Todmorden

Postnatal Yoga

POSTNATAL YOGA

Postnatal yoga with your baby. Bring baby along, connect with other local mums, strengthen muscles after pregnancy and birth, stretch out tired limbs and get in some much needed relaxation. Tea, cake and laughter also provided. 
Cost £42.50 for a 6 week course.

Tuesdays 1pm at Calderdale Yoga Centre in Hebden Bridge.

Wednesdays 10:30pm at the Todfellows Centre, Todmorden.

Preparing the Pelvic Floor for Birth and Recovery

This is a two hour session where you'll be guided through Breathwork and movement to explore the pelvic floor and its role in the birthing process. There are so many myths regarding the pelvic floor (for example, it's not actually a floor and it doesn't push your baby out!) so we'll be dispelling these and looking at practices which help prepare our pelvic muscles for birth. 

 

50% of women and birthing people cannot preform pelvic floor lifts / kegels correctly! We will explore the muscles that make up the pelvic floor and learn how to properly lift and engage the muscles. More importantly for birth, we will learn how to relax and lengthen the pelvic floor and how to use movement and positioning to work with your pelvic floor. You’ll learn about the biodynamics of the pelvis and how to open and prepare the pelvic floor muscles for birth. This is a huge part of birth preparation and something I believe is missing from most birth preparation books / sessions due to the detail involved. It's something I've trained extensively in and I believe all women and birthing people should know about. Everything taught is about creating a relationship with our pelvis floor to enable it to become responsive; therefore this workshop is also relevant for those planning to birth via caesarean as the information will be useful for recovery. 

As part of your attendance you get full access to the online aspect of the course which includes 5 videos to practice. As soon as you book you'll be sent access to the online course so you can begin practicing straight away. This is available to purchase separately if you can’t make the course.

Caesarean Birth Recovery Workshop

A workshop to help you understand the changes in your body post caesarean and simple techniques to help you reconnect and heal. I'l always start the workshop by explaining that major abdominal surgery without the baby is often accompanied by a two year recovery programme. But with a caesarean birth, you're told don't lift anything heavier than your baby and avoid driving for six weeks. This isn't enough and you deserve better. 

In this workshop you do not have to do anything that brings discomfort. Everything we practice (and more) is given to you in audio or video format. We cover the following: 
Scar reconnection
Scar massage and desensitisation
Breath work
Posture
Core connection and engagement
Relaxation

It can be very powerful to be in a room full of women who have all birthed via caesarean, breathing, moving and resting together. We'll also have time for tea and cake at the end. 

You are welcome to bring your non-crawling baby although you may get more from the session if someone else can look after them. The session is held in Hebden Bridge and there are lots of cafe's and nice walks. If you have someone looking after your baby in Hebden and baby needs you then they are welcome to come into the session.

Closing the Bones Postpartum ceremony

CLOSING THE BONES CEREMONY 

A nurturing and gentle ceremony for new mums (or not so new mums!). You are invited to come rest, renew and respect the journey your body, mind and heart has been through. Lying supine on the floor you are talked through a short relaxation before rocked gently using rebozo scarves. You are then wrapped and again encouraged to relax and be held. The ceremony draws to an end with poetry, tea or cacao.

Whether you're wanting to build your core or pelvic floor strength or recover from a more serious birth injury or cesarean, I can work with you to build confidence and ability. Sustaining an injury during birth can feel overwhelming; I have experience working with women and birthing people suffering from incontinence, prolapse and 3rd and 4th degree tears. I work alongside your physiotherapist or specialist practitioner using gentle and specific yoga practices to help you on your healing journey. Contact me for a free chat.
